Malaysia has definitely not escaped this culture. What’s interesting in this part of the world is that you can appear in your shorts, t-shirt or even pajamas and enjoy our lovely kopitiams amongst the old uncles and their newspapers.

Bangsar — KL’s Brunch Capital
Bangsar is a location that probably houses the most number of brunch cafe in KL. The good news is the Telawi strip is pretty walkable and you get to pick many different types of brunch spots, all within the same vicinity. Let’s look at a few of my favorites in Bangsar.
IMOMENT Café
IMOMENT Cafe is actually tucked within Melilea Tower at bangsar South and if your first instinct is to think that it only caters to the office crowd, you’ve got it all wrong. The environment and ambiance is definitely set up for the best brunch in KL, whether you’re doing it with your family or friends. The menu here is a fusion one so expect your spaghetti to have its own Malaysian moment!
Must Try: The Asam Pedas Barramundi Fettuccini is a definite must-try here. The fish is really fresh and the fettuccine is definitely cooked al-dente. Their matcha lattes are also creatively served, with an iced teddy bear seated on top, perfect for a worthy Insta moment!

Naj & Belle
There are a few Naj & Belle outlets but the one in Bangsar is my favourite brunch spot in KL, thanks to their beautiful ambiance and of course food. The place is big and modern with plenty of daylight coming in through their large windows – it’s almost like dining out amongst the trees.
Must Try: You are going to be bombarded by those who know this place to try their Watermelon cake – try it for sure, but don’t miss out on their other dishes especially their Soft Shell Crab Linguine that is spicy and buttery cooked with curry leaves. Or their deconstructed Pavlova that tastes like a dream on a plate! Coffee is so-so but plenty of other drinks to compensate.

Urban Daybreak
Personally, one of the best brunch in KL that you can have is at Urban Daybreak. This Melbourne inspired brunch in KL definitely stays true to their concept. The place is not too big so be sure to reserve a table as it does get pretty crowded at brunch hours especially.
Must Try: Their fried chicken waffle is ultra famous. Order one and you’ll quickly know why – chicken is tender and juicy, while the skin is crispy. Waffles are delicious by themselves or when combined with the chicken and sauces. Coffee lovers can also get a decent cuppa here.

Antipodean
Another place to get your brunch in KL would definitely be Antipodean. The place may not be dressed up for your Insta walls but modern rustic lovers will still find it airy and cosy for the best brunch in KL.
Must Try: They do their eggs benedict the best. And guess what? You can make it a Deluxe (like supersizing your meal) and get much more protein in one go. If you want something sweet, try their bana pancakes. It’s fluffy and has a very nice banana flavor that goes super well with their butterscotch sauce.

Porch and Pantry
A new kid on the Bangsar block, it’s not hard to believe that it is quickly becoming one of the best brunch in Kuala Lumpur that you can have. Tucked slightly away from the Telawi concentration, Porch and Pantry is located at Jalan Medang Kapas. Plenty of space here and with a small play area, it is definitely family friendly.
Must Try: Their truffle mushroom pasta is really good and is a burst of umami flavour. For something sweet, try their birthday pancake (even if it’s not your birthday!). Pancakes are light and fluffy and though they look simple, the pancakes are the star of the dish, without needing much else to be honest.

PULP by PPP
Pulp by PPP is an OG when it comes to coffee and good brunch in KL. They have been around for close to 12 years now and have revamped themselves time and again to keep up with the brunch culture in KL.
Must Try: Coffee is a must have here as they have some of the best beans roasted locally. But that said, their matcha drinks are also really trendy and taste good too! As for food, don’t miss out on their fried chicken sandwich – juicy and crispy, makes the best brunch food!

Bukit Bintang — Brunch in the Heart of the City
The city centre is not short of options when you search for a good brunch cafe in KL. In fact, it is very underrated as a brunch destination but still is home to some of Kl’s most iconic long-running brunch cafes.
FEEKA Coffee Roasters
The original Feeka Coffee Roasters is this brunch cafe in KL that is set up in an old bungalow, with both indoor and outdoor seating made available. The ambiance is pretty breezy on the outside but the inside can be slightly crowded. However, they’ve since made some arrangements for more seating upstairs.
Must Try: French toast here is classic and a must have. They serve them with fresh bananas on top and a good serving of salted caramel sauce. If you’re looking for something savory instead, their Turkish eggs are to die for. Not too spicy and perfect to be had with a few slices of toasted sourdough. Coffee is so-so, but my favorite pick is to have their freshly squeezed orange juice.

Chinatown & City Centre — Brunch in a Heritage Shophouse
There are plenty of western brunch cafes in KL but sometimes, all you want is a taste of the good ol’ local breakfast that just hits the spot. Fret not as we have some of KL’s best brunch spots within pre-war shophouses along Jalan Petaling and Jalan Tun HS Lee that gives you just that!
LOKL Coffee Co.
You will find LOKL Coffee Co. not too far from Merdeka Square. So honestly, it’s perfect to have brunch in KL here when you’re out and about, exploring the city. The ambiance is super calming and green, although indoors! Many would say it’s pretty cozy for a brunch session with your loved ones.
Must Try: The breakfast burger here is quite famous! Named after the burger from McDonalds, McMuffin, this one has most people smitten with its fresh and juicy patty. The spanish french toast is also super delicious if you’re the kind that prefers sweet brunch options. Coffee is pretty standard – won’t particularly impress the connoisseurs but won’t offend them either.

Dough Days
Dough Days is frankly pretty new and it is not too far from Lokl Coffee. If there’s a waiting time at the prior, you could always come here as the food is just as good (if not, better!).
Must Try : Popular for their mini croffle, you cannot miss their Chicken and Croffle dish which is portion wise, huge, and taste wise, crispy and juicy, and really goes well with each other along with all the sauces. On the sweeter side, you have a good choice of pastries available but I urge you to try their pistachio croffle that is served with vanilla ice cream and a generous drizzle of homemade pistachio cream.

Old School KL — Brunch Before Brunch Was a Thing
Not every great brunch in KL comes with latte art. KL’s kopitiam heritage is older than the whole brunch movement that we have going on today. The truth is for many, the brunch culture looks very different, far away from coffee and pastries but much closer to noodles, kaya breads and some wok hei early in the morning.
Yut Kee Restaurant
Yut Kee is a hainanese coffee shop dishing out the OG brunches to its customers starting from 7.30 am. As their Instagram suggests, they serve ‘comfort food, the familiar kind’, which I cannot disagree with. This place is a typical brunch in KL for many of the older generations but slowly is the culture that is being taken over by the younger ones too.
Must Try: You cannot set foot in a Hainanese shop and not have their Chicken Chop – it’s blasphemy to do so. So start off with a delicious plate of well fried chicken served in a golden sauce and a sprinkle of green peas and some potatoes. Once done, try their marble cake which is also very popular. It is tender, with the right amount of sweetness but definitely less sinful than the chicken chop. The kopi, teh and other brunch drinks are all good, so go for any one that you prefer.
